Zanesville City Schools, Sorop-timist International of Zanesville and Daybreak Rotary are sponsoring a Teen Dating Violence Awareness event at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Zanesville High School cafetorium. The event is open to everyone, but it is targeted toward parents, educators, youth workers and students, said Linda White, Soropti-, mist International president. Ohio House Bill 19 requires schools to provide education regarding healthy relationships and dating abuse to students in grades 7-12, White said, and Monday's meeting is to help with that mandate.

"It's an awareness thing," she said. "A lot of people just don't know that this is an issue. It just smolders beneath the surface. "There's all kinds of different ways that people in a relationship just kind of put up with and don't realize that this is not a healthy sign." Speaker Tim Boehleain, training and education director of the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center of Greater Cleveland, will talk during the event about teen dating violence and how to recognize the signs of an abusive relationship. During the school day Monday, Johanna Orozco, of Cleveland, will share her own abuse story with students.

When she was a senior in high school, Orozco's ex-boyfriend shot her in the face with a sawed-off shotgun. Orozco has shared her story on -ABC's "2020," with The Cleveland Plain Dealer and on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." i. nit: Tri-Valley teacher's hearing concludes Decision about employment status for educator accused of misusing leave days still is months away I- IUlcKx Joan Wine models a copper dress from the James Store, of Granville. By Hannah Sparling Staff Writer DRESDEN A hearing is complete, but it will be months before the fate of a former Tri-Valley biology teacher is decided. The hearing for Susan Moore was finished Wednesday, said Tri-Valley Superintendent Mark Neal, but he doesn't expect the result until January.

It will be at least 14 days before the attorneys receive a copy of the hearing transcript; then they have another 30 days to submit post-hearing briefs, Neal said. Then, the third-party hearing officer has another few weeks to review the case and give his opinion, Neal said. The hearing was closed to the public. The termination process for Moore, a former biology teacher, was started in April after a unanimous vote by the Tri-Valley board of education. A district investigation claims that on several occasions, Moore worked a second job teaching at a local college after calling off sick from Tri-Valley.

In five years at Tri-Valley, Moore missed 66 days, according to the district. Teachers in the district get 15 sick days, three personal days and association leave each year. Moore's salary for the 2010-11 school year was $63,045, and her absences cost the district $27,894.24, Neal has said more than $22,000 to pay Moore for days not worked and $5,280 to pay substitute teachers. In May, the State Employment Relations Board denied Moore's claim of unfair labor practices. Moore filed the complaint in February after Neal denied an absence request for her to attend a one-day Ohio Education Association conference.

Three others from the district were approved to attend. Neal said the hearing process has been long and expensive for Tri-Valley. The best-case estimate from the district's attorney was $50,000, he said. Neither the district's nor Moore's attorneys returned calls seeking comment.
